Langada is not the kind of place you stumble across — it sits on a small bay just south of Kardamyla, down a road that goes nowhere else. But Chians have known about it for generations, and on summer Sundays the waterfront fills with families who have made the drive from Chios Town specifically for one reason: the fish.
The tavernas of Langada are supplied directly by the local fishing boats that work the clear waters between Chios and the island of Oinousses. The catch changes with the season — red mullet in summer, sea bream in autumn, squid year-round — and nothing is kept longer than the day it was caught. The cooking is straightforward: grilled whole over charcoal, dressed with lemon and olive oil, served with a village salad and cold local wine.
The setting completes the experience. The bay at Langada is sheltered and calm, the water is transparently clear, and the view across to Oinousses — where Greece's most famous shipping dynasties built their villas — is exceptional at sunset. This is one of those places where the food, the setting, and the company align perfectly.
When to Go
Langada is best visited for lunch or an early dinner. Go on a weekday if possible — on summer Sundays it fills with Chios families and tables are hard to find without a reservation. The tavernas are typically open from April through October.
